Our Reservations

The Senator consists of two very distinct historic rooms; the original 1940’s DINER on the main floor and the WINEBAR, an intimate Parisian style cafe that dates back to the 1860’s on the second. Both rooms are fully licensed but offer entirely different menus under the supervision of Executive Chef Paul Laforet - see Menu pages. We take full Dinner reservations in both the Diner and Winebar; however, it is first come first serve - which is never that long a wait - for Breakfast, Lunch and Brunch. The Winebar only seats 24 so please confirm your reservation on the day you are dining and inform us if you are arriving later than 10 minutes otherwise it will be cancelled.

We are an old-fashioned restaurant and take reservations the old-fashioned way; in person or by phone. Please call 416 364 7517 or leave us a message; we have voice mail but do not accept reservations by email and do not work with any on-line services.

You will see our original neon sign hanging at 249 Victoria St. just south of Dundas, around the corner from the Eaton Centre, directly across the street from the Ed Mirvish Theatre and a just a few steps to Massey Hall and the Elgin/Wintergarden Theatres.

Private Events & Large Parties

We are delighted to accommodate groups of any size from 10 -100 who are looking for a special place for a special event at anytime. You can book either the Diner or Winebar or both and our Chefs and planners will work with you to create memorable menus and events. Please contact us at 416 364 7517.

Our Seating Policy

The Senator can be very busy - especially on weekends - and we only have 18 booths in the Diner. In order to provide the best service for all our guests - most of whom want to get in and out for breakfast, lunch and brunch - we do not allow tables to be held and seat guests when their entire party has arrived. When we are busy turning tables and you are in-line waiting for your party to arrive, we understand that it can be upsetting to have guests seated ahead of you but trust that you will be seated at the first available table when your entire party arrives. This allows us to serve and cook for guests who are here rather than making us all wait for those who are yet to arrive. Thank you for understanding.

Dinner/Show Cover Charges

We work tirelessly to procure the finest ingredients for our meals, to curate privately imported wines and source distinctive talent all at fair and reasonable prices including a nominal Cover Charge. All artists are well paid and fed and going back to Diana Krall, who initially debuted at the Top O' the Senator before she became an international star, we are not sure who will emerge as the next star to perform at the Senator but if you are uncomfortable with paying the Cover Charge, please let us know when you arrive and not after you have spent the evening. Typical Cover Charges are $10 for the first set at 9 P.M. $5 for the second set after 10 P.M. and No Cover after 11. Thanks for supporting Canadian artists.
