Our Reservations

The Senator consists of two distinct historic rooms; the original 1940’s DINER on the main floor and the WINEBAR upstairs, an intimate Parisian style cafe that dates back to the 1860’s. Both rooms are fully licensed and offer entirely different menus under the supervision of Executive Chef Paul Laforet - see our Menu pages. We take dinner reservations in the Diner and full Brunch and Dinner reservations in the Winebar; however, it is first come first serve - which is never that long a wait - in the Diner for Breakfast, Lunch and Brunch. The Winebar only has room for 24 and we take both Dinner and Dinner/Show reservations but we do not take reservations for the show alone. Please confirm your reservation on the same day you are dining and inform us if you are arriving later than 10 minutes otherwise it will be cancelled.

We are an old-fashioned restaurant and take reservations the old-fashioned way; in person or by phone. So please call us directly at 416 364 7517 or leave us a message - we have voice mail - but do not accept reservations online or by email and do not work with any outside services.

You will see our original neon sign hanging at 249 Victoria St. just south of Dundas, around the corner from the Eaton Centre, directly across the street from the Ed Mirvish Theatre and a few steps to Massey Hall. The entrance to the Diner and Winebar - on top of the Senator - is the same front door.

Private Events & Large Parties

We are delighted to accommodate groups of any size from 10 -100 who are looking for a special place for a special event at anytime. You can book either the “Diner” or “Winebar” or both and our Chefs and planners will work with you to create memorable menus and events. Please contact us at 416 364 7517 and ask for Anne or Michelle or write us at contact@thesenator.com.

Our Seating Policy

The Senator can be very busy all day - especially on weekends - and we only have 18 booths in the Diner. In an effort to provide the best care for all of our guests - most of whom want to get in and out especially for breakfast, lunch and brunch - our seating policy is that we do not allow tables to be held and only seat guests when their entire party has arrived. When we are busy turning tables and you are in-line waiting for your party to arrive, we understand that it can be upsetting to have complete parties seated ahead of you but trust that you will be seated at the first available table when your entire party arrives. We did not make this policy to be disrespectful to guests who are waiting in-line; it is a valuable decision which allows us to serve guests who are all on the premises rather than making us all wait for those who are yet to arrive. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner/Show Cover Charges

We work tirelessly to procure the finest ingredients for our meals, to curate wines and liquors for our beverage lists and to source and audition the most distinctive up and coming talent.... all at a fair and reasonable price including a nominal $10 Cover Charge for our LIVE shows. We guarantee all performers a higher than standard wage for a 24 seat room - and feed them too - with which they are very satisfied and going back to Diana Krall, who we initially featured at the Top O' the Senator before she became an international star, we are not sure who will become the next rising star to perform at the Senator, but if you are uncomfortable with the Cover Charge please let us know when you arrive and not after you have spent the evening. Typical Cover Charges are $10 for the first set at 9 P.M. $5 for the second set after 10 P.M. and No Cover after 11. Thanks for supporting Canadian artists.
